How to add trusted phone numbers to your Apple ID
If you still do not enable 2-factor authentication for your Apple account, we strongly recommend that you do this as soon as possible.
Let us clarify at once that Two-factor authentication differs from Two-step verification. The second is older and less protected.
If you have 2FA disabled, then anyone who takes the password from your Apple ID will be able to access your contacts, calendars, notes, emails and other personal information, as well as see your photos, iCloud files, e.
Special questions Apple ID also does not save: at this time even an ordinary user can hack your Apple ID in many ways.
With 2FA to access all of the above, not enough one username and password from the Apple ID, because each entry from the new device must be confirmed with a six-digit code that automatically appears on the verified devices. By enabling 2FA, you can only access your Apple ID from trusted devices. This feature significantly improves the security of your Apple ID and personal information.
Enable 2PA in iOS 10.3 and newer in  Settings → [your name] → Password and security → Two-factor authentication or in  Settings → iCloud → your Apple ID → Password and security → Two-factor authentication if you have a version older than iOS 10.2.
You may have to answer your Apple ID question.
By enabling 2FA, you will need to enter your Apple ID, password and confirmation code each time you log in to iCloud and other Apple services through a new device or browser.
But what if you have lost access to all your trusted devices? You can no longer log into your Apple ID? No. You can also confirm 2FA using the code sent to the verified phone number. You can get the code through a message or a phone call.
At setting 2FA it is necessary to enter at least one checked number. Moreover, you can add several numbers. This will help you in case you lose access to your trusted devices.
We advise you to use your home phone number, friend or family member number. Later, you can use it when there is no way to access your devices.

How to add a validated number for Two-Factor Authentication

You can manage verified numbers and devices from the Apple ID web page.
1)  In the browser, click the link: appleid.apple.com .
2)  Sign in to your Apple ID.
3)  In the Security section  ,  click  Change .
4)  Click  Add phone number ... .
5)  In the pop-up window, select your country.
6)  Enter the phone number you would like to use for 2FA.
Enter the country code is not necessary, because you have already chosen it, i.e. "+7" should not be entered.
7)  Choose the method of confirmation: SMS or Phone call .
8)  Click  Continue .
9)  Enter the six-digit confirmation code you received.
10)  After that, click  Finish in the upper right corner of the Security section to save the settings.
Note:  Verified numbers can also be deleted. To do this, simply click on the " icon  next to the number you want to delete.

Two-factor authentication and SMS security

Use confirmation via SMS or phone call is recommended only if you can not access your trusted devices, because this method is unsafe. The message can be easily intercepted. SMS is the least secure method of verification.
